Mamie Smith

Mamie Smith was one of the first African American artists of success. In 1920 she recorded a series of songs composed by Perry Bradford, including Crazy Blues, which solds millions of copies. In 1994 the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame because of its historical relevance. In 2005 it was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry of United States Library of Congress.
